Awach and Patiko sub-counties in Gulu District represent communities with significant unmet healthcare needs. Both areas face persistent challenges, including limited access to medical personnel, inadequate infrastructure, and financial constraints that hinder timely care—particularly among vulnerable groups such as refugees, formerly internally displaced persons, and underserved host populations.
Core services will include:
Cervical and prostate cancer screening to detect early signs and
facilitate referrals for further management.
Dental services include extractions, oral hygiene education,
and treatment of infections.
Minor surgical procedures, such as safe male circumcision and
incision & drainage (I&D), are performed under sterile conditions.
Basic laboratory services, including screening for tropical
diseases and non-communicable diseases.
·
General medical consultations and treatment for common
illnesses, with a focus on maternal and child health, infectious diseases, and
chronic conditions.
·
These camps are not only a response to immediate health needs but also a
strategic step toward building resilient, community-driven healthcare systems.
By integrating cooperative principles with public health delivery, we aim to
foster trust, inclusivity, and sustainability. The initiative aligns with
Uganda’s national health priorities and contributes to global goals such as
Universal Health Coverage and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly
SDG 3 on good health and well-being.
Beyond service delivery, the camps will serve as platforms for health
education, community mobilization, and stakeholder engagement. Local leaders,
health workers, and volunteers will be actively involved, reinforcing a sense
of ownership and collective responsibility.
Together, Awach and Patiko medical camps exemplify how
cooperative-driven healthcare can bridge systemic gaps, empower communities,
and inspire scalable solutions across Uganda and beyond.
